Airports

Travellers arriving in the Republic of Cyprus may enter the Republic only through the legal ports of entry: Larnaka and Pafos International Airports, or the ports of Larnaka, Lemesos (Limassol), and Pafos. Note: The Airport Tax is included in the airfare.

All airports in the part of the Republic illegally occupied by the Turkish invasion forces, have been declared by the Government of Cyprus as prohibited ports of entry and exit, and no visitor should enter or leave the Republic through these ports.

Cyprus Research Center

The Library of the Cyprus Research Center is open to scholars on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Center publishes "The Epetiris of the Cyprus Research Center", which specializes on the Archaeology and History of Cyprus, and various other publications on Cyprus' historical and cultural issues. The above publications can be purchased either from the Cyprus Research Center or from bookshops.

The Institute has published a few books (ASTOR PUBLICATIONS) and issues the CAARI Newsletter, all of which can be purchased from the CAARI Institute. The Library of the Institute is open to researchers and scholars.CAARI also offers accommodation at a certain charge to archaeologists.

The Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus organises lectures on archaeology and history, mainly of Cyprus throughout the academic year.

The Cultural Foundation is permanently housed in the old administrative headquarters of the Bank of Cyprus, near the Phaneromeni Church, in the old town of Nicosia, within the Venetian walls. It houses the Museum of the George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides Collection (donated by Clio and Solon Triantafyllides), the Agora (the Foundation’s shop), the Exhibition hall and the Cultural Foundation’s lecture hall. In the courtyard of the building, at the open air theatre musical and theatrical performances are staged.

The Laiki Cultural Centre was created in 1983, introducing the first cultural agenda initiated by a banking institution. The Centre’s activities include three archival Cypriot collections: Art, Rare Books and Photographs, a major publication programme, children’s educational programmes and annual exhibitions on Cyprus’ heritage as well as European contemporary art. From 2000 the Pierides Museum and its vast collections of ancient, medieval and ethnological Cypriot art, have been entrusted to the Laiki Group Cultural Centre.

Archaeological  Sites

NOTES:

1. All museums and archaeological sites remain closed on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday (Greek Orthodox).
2. During the rest of the Public Holidays (see page 79) the major archaeological sites: Kolossi Castle, Kourion site, Sanctuary of Apollo, Tombs of the Kings, Mosaics in Pafos and Hala Sultan Tekkesi, remain open from 09.00 - 17.00 hrs. The Cyprus Archaeological Museum in Lefkosia (Nicosia) and the District Archaeological Museums in Lemesos (Limassol) and Pafos remain also open from 10.00 - 13.00 hrs.
3. Opening and Closing times of Museums as well as Entrance Fees are subject to alterations without notice.
4. Free admittance on Sundays to all State Museums and Archaeological sites for Cypriots.
